Joy For Wright & Bromberg

Joy For Wright & Bromberg

STACY BROMBERG and Tricia Wright will contest the final of the inaugural PDC Unicorn Women's World Championship next month.

American star Bromberg and Surrey-based Wright will contest for the £10,000 winner's cheque at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool next month after winning through the last 32 in Barnsley.

Bromberg, who has based in Las Vegas, hit the jackpot with a narrow 4-3 win over Anastasia Dobromyslova in their semi-final contest, with the Russian hitting back from 3-0 down to force a decider.

Bromberg punished three missed doubles from Dobromyslova to win the second leg in taking a 2-0 lead, and a 15-dart finish put her three legs clear.

Dobromyslova won the next and then took out 97 in two darts to make Bromberg pay for six missed match darts, before a 16-dart leg saw her level matters.

But Bromberg hit scores of 140 and 100 in the seventh leg to be first to the finish, and took out 69 in three darts, with Dobromyslova waiting on 130, to move into the final.

Bromberg had whitewashed Japan's Kazumi Nakagawa in the last 32 and also defeated Donna-Maria Rainsley and Denise Cassidy in the event, and admitted afterwards: "This is the greatest moment of my career and I'm delighted.

"Anastasia played great in the final and she came back brilliantly at me, and I'm so grateful to get through.

"I've known Tricia for 20 years or so and I can't wait to play her in Blackpool."

Wright also went to a deciding leg in her semi-final, defeating Milton Keynes' Fiona Carmichael 4-3.

Carmichael had defeated Russia's Irina Borovkova, Canadian number one Cindy Pardy and WDF number one Deta Hedman to reach the last four, and led Wright 2-1 in their decisive game.

However, misses at double top and ten allowed Wright to level in the fourth leg before a neat two-dart 76 put the more experienced lady ahead.

Carmichael hit back to win the sixth leg in 16 darts, but Wright was too strong in the decider and finished 50 for victory.

Sabrina Sporle followed up a first round win over fellow German Stefanie Luck with a 4-3 win over Louise Carroll to reach the quarter-finals, where she took out 101 to level at three-all with Dobromyslova before losing the decider.

Russian duo Irina Borovkova and Irina Armstrong lost in the last 32, but Australian Lavinia Hogg and Finland's Marika Juhola won through to the last 16.

The final will be held on Sunday July 25 ahead of the final of the StanJames.com World Matchplay at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
