Klassen Steps Up Blackpool Challenge

JELLE KLAASEN'S run to the quarter-finals of Sunday's Bristol Trade Centre Players Championship has improved his chances of winning a place in the Stan James World Matchplay.

The 32 players for the 2008 Stan James World Matchplay - to be played in Blackpool from July 20-26 - will be confirmed following the forthcoming PartyPoker.net Las Vegas Desert Classic.

The top 16 players in the PDC Order of Merit following that event will be joined by the 16 leading non-qualified players from the Players Championship Order of Merit.

Following the two Bristol Trade Centre Players Championships last weekend, only the Las Vegas Players Championship on Sunday June 29 remains for players outside the top 16 to win a place in the World Matchplay.

Klaasen remains one of a clutch of players who sit just outside the 16 qualification places following his success in reaching the last eight of Sunday's Players Championship.

He is level on £1,725 with Adrian Gray, with Wayne Atwood, Kirk Shepherd, Dave Askew and Steve Maish also in contention.

Wes Newton, Andy Jenkins, Brendan Dolan, Colin Monk and John Ferrell would all need to reach the latter stages of the Las Vegas Players Championship to jump up the Players Championship Order of Merit, with all sitting at least £350 behind Mark Frost, who currently occupies the 16th qualifying place.
