Lewis Staying Grounded

ADRIAN LEWIS is looking to remain consistent during the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts.

Lewis produced arguably the finest display of the opening two weeks of the Whyte & Mackay Premier League Darts by defeating Raymond van Barneveld 8-3 in Bournemouth last Thursday.

He powered into a 6-0 lead against the Dutchman in under ten minutes, without van Barneveld having a dart at a double, before closing out an impressive victory with a 105 average.

However, Lewis is determined to prove that the performance was no one-off, as he prepares to take on Terry Jenkins at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast on Thursday.

"At the end of the day it's only one game, and the Premier League is a marathon and not a sprint," said Lewis.

"It was one of the best games I've had on TV, probably up there alongside averaging 108 against Barney in the European Championship in 2008.

"The Premier League is a marathon and not a sprint," Adrian Lewis
"I'd practised really hard before Bournemouth, practising in Stoke with Ian White, and I was a lot more consistent, which I was happy with.

"I knew I was going to play well, and that was the difference."

Lewis has had a recent habit of making an explosive start to a match for three or four legs before letting his lead slip, but was pleased to maintain the pressure on van Barneveld.

"For a few games before Thursday I'd started and been brilliant for two or three legs and then my foot's come off the pedal, I'd lose and bit of interest and lose the game," he admitted.

"But I knew what I had to do against Barney, I was ready for him and I did it, so I'm happy.

"When I start winning big tournaments I don't think I'll just win tournaments, I think I'll blow them away. I can feel that in myself and that's the difference now, in the last six months.

"I won't be winning close games any more like I have in the past, I'll be winning by a comfortable distance."
