Nicholson Wins DPA Singles Title

PAUL NICHOLSON has won the inaugural DPA Australian Singles tournament.

Nicholson, an ex-County player from Northumberland who is now an Australian resident, defeated Rob Modra 6-1 in the final.

He averaged over 102 in a fine victory, which also included a 5-2 semi-final defeat of Pat Orreal - who starred at the PartyBets.com Grand Slam of Darts last week.

Modra won 5-2 against Russell Stewart in the other semi-final.

The DPA Australian Singles tournament took place in Unanderra, New South Wales, and was the first to count towards the DPA Order of Merit, which will replace the ranking points system in Australia.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to win this event," said Nicholson. "The standard of play was unbelievable there wasn't an easy game at all."
