Nicholson's Double Bonus

PAUL NICHOLSON'S displays in the William Cross Pro-Am have seen him win a place in the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts and also earn a spot in the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship.

Nicholson has led the DPA's Australian Grand Prix rankings throughout 2008, with the winner taking a place in the World Championship.

His run to the final of Sunday's Australian Open Players Championship saw him take an unassailable lead over Russell Stewart at the top of the standings with two events remaining.

UK-born Nicholson's performances in Shoalhaven throughout last week, including the two Shoalhaven Classic events and the William Cross Pro-Am Mens Singles, saw him win more prize money than any other Australian or New Zealander in the events, earning him a Grand Slam of Darts place.

A semi-final win over Pat Orreal - who represented Australia in last year's inaugural Grand Slam of Darts - proved the clinching victory, seeing him edge out the Queenslander to take the spot in Wolverhampton in November alongside another Aussie, BDO World Championship finalist Simon Whitlock.

"I'm overwhelmed with my results over the past week, especially in the Players Championship," said Nicholson.

"I wasn't aware that Pat and myself were playing off for a Grand Slam place, but that will be a fantastic experience for me.

"I plan to stay in the UK between the Grand Slam and the World Championship and am looking forward to playing against the best players in the world."
