Second DPA Double For Platt

DAVID PLATT secured a weekend double on the DPA Australian Grand Prix circuit by winning both tournaments staged at the NDDA in Adelaide, moving himself ahead of Corey Cadby at the top of the rankings.

Platt followed up March's double win in Perth by picking up both titles in Adelaide on the fifth weekend of the season.

The triumphs took even greater significance with the double victories seeing Platt overtake emerging star Corey Cadby at the top of the AGP Order of Merit by just one ranking point - with 169 to the youngster's 168 - to secure automatic qualification for the Ladbrokes Sydney Darts Masters and TABtouch Perth Darts Masters.

Platt enjoyed wins over Troy Anderson, Scott Kennedy, Barry Gardner and Aaron Petty before defeating Clinton Bridge 6-1 in the final.

Platt also overcame Bridge in Sunday's event as he followed up wins over Kennedy, Kevin Young and Harley Kemp in the knockout phase by seeing off the left-hander in the semi-finals by the same 6-1 scoreline, before going on to defeat Tyson Hoefel 6-4 in the final.

Cadby suffered a defeat at the Last 16 stage to Mark Smyth on Saturday before losing out 4-1 to John Weber in the Last 32 on Sunday.

The next DPA tournaments will take place from May 22-28 in Dubbo, with the Australasian Championships, DPA Australian Singles and DPA Australian Open taking place. For full details, see www.dartplayersaustralia.com.

A spot in June's Auckland Darts Masters is on offer for the DPA Australian Open champion, with the DPA Australian Singles winner receiving a place in the Ladbrokes Sydney Darts Masters in August.
