Skybet World Grand Prix Field

THE field of 32 players for the 2009 Skybet World Grand Prix has now been confirmed.

The £350,000 tournament will be played from October 5-11 at in Dublin - and has been moved into the new Citywest International Event & Conference Centre.

The 32-player event features the top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit, who are joined by the leading 12 non-qualified players from the Players Championship Order of Merit after the two Austrian Open events in Salzburg.

The remaining four places go to the leading four players from Ireland/Northern Ireland in the Players Championship Order of Merit, with the race for those spots going right to the wire.

While Brendan Dolan and John MaGowan had already secured places, Mick McGowan was left hanging on to his spot and Jacko Barry's displays in Austria saw him move above Northern Ireland's Ray Farrell on a count-back to take the final position.

Andy Hamilton has held on to 16th place in the main PDC Order of Merit by under £2,000 ahead of Robert Thornton - who is amongst the 12 Players Championship qualifiers.

Paul Nicholson's win in the recent Australian Open Players Championship means he has jumped into the qualifying places to make a debut in the World Grand Prix, with Gary Anderson, Jamie Caven and Michael van Gerwen also earning a first appearance in the double-start event.

Wes Newton's recent form, including reaching the final of the Canadian Players Championship, saw him jump above Denis Ovens, who held on for the last of the 12 Players Championship places.

The draw for the Skybet World Grand Prix will be made on Tuesday September 15, ahead of the opening day of Championship League Darts.

It is hoped that the drawn will be streamed live online and further details will be announced in due course.

Tickets can be purchased from the Citywest Hotel Box Office on 00353 1 401 0505 or by emailing darts09@citywesthotel.com.
