ANDY SMITH defeated James Wade in straight sets to win the Scottish Players Championship at the Magnum Centre in Irvine.
Smith dropped just two legs in a superb display, averaging 108.94 in the final against Wade.
He took the first set 2-1 before stepping up a gear in the second, with legs of 14 and 15 darts seeing him double the lead.
Smith stepped in to win the opener to set three, with Wade sat on 60, before the SkyBet World Grand Prix champion struck back on double ten to level.
But Smith kicked off the deciding leg with a maximum and then two 100 scores to leave Wade trailing, and there was to be no successive victory for the world number three as he watched his opponent take out 121 on double 18 for the win.
Smith overcame Darren Johnson, Jamie Robinson, Barrie Bates, Adrian Lewis, Denis Ovens and Jason Clark to reach the final.
Wade had only dropped one set on his way to the final, including wins against John Kuczynski, Chris Thompson, Scott Kirchner, Kevin Painter, Dave Askew and Tony Randell.
Warwickshire's Randell enjoyed his best ever run on the PDC Pro Tour by reaching the semi-finals, including world number four Terry Jenkins and Wayne Mardle among his victims.
Clark joined Randell in improving his chances of a place in the Ladbrokes.com World Championship by also reaching the last four, where he lost 3-1 to Smith.
Clark, nicknamed the Cockney Jock due to his Scottish family, went to a fifth set in wins over Lee Palfreyman, John MaGowan, Mark Dudbridge and Dennis Priestley.
Dave Askew landed over 20 180s on his way to the last eight in wins over Mervyn King, Dave Honey, Tony Eccles and Alan Caves, only to run into an unstoppable Wade.
Vincent van der Voort was punished for three missed darts for a 3-0 win over Lewis in round four, with the Stoke youngster hitting back to win in a decider.
