Crabtree and Barkhausen enjoy Development Tour success in Hildesheim

Cam Crabtree won his first Winmau Development Tour title on Friday, whilst Jannis Barkhausen clinched his maiden PDC title on home soil.

The third weekend of Development Tour action saw a double-header take place at Halle 39 in Hildesheim, with Cam Crabtree emerging through a 272-player field to claim Event 11 in Friday’s opener.

The 21-year-old clinched his first Development Tour title, defeating Adam Gawlas 5-2 in the final.

The Czech talent began the game with a 13-darter, with Crabtree responding by winning the next three legs - asserting himself in the contest with a 3-1 lead.

The Croydon-based talent then went on to win two of the next three legs, finishing the game with a respectable 92.53 average.

’Shazam’ began the day with a 4-0 win over Lenny Schlueter, which was followed up with victories against Nathan Girvan, Jurjen van der Velde, Jamai van den Herik, Viktor Tingstrom, Nathan Potter and Angelo Balsamo.

It’s been a positive first half of the year for Crabtree, who reached the third round of the UK Open back in March, whilst also winning his first game on the European Tour back in April.

Elsewhere in the event, Ryan Branley, who went into the day ranked fourth in the order of merit, crashed out in his first match - losing 4-0 to Laurin Welk.

Meanwhile, Liam Maendl-Lawrance was the standout performer in the early stages, averaging an impressive 109.31 in his Last 512 game against Czechia’s David Fidler.

The German enjoyed a successful run to the quarter-finals, eventually losing to compatriot Jannis Barkhausen.

Previous Development Tour winners Beau Graves and Sebastian Bialecki both tasted defeat in their second games of the event, losing to Thomas Keenan and Cayden Smith respectively.

Dominik Gruellich, Charlie Manby and Patrik Williams were among those exiting the tournament a round later in the Last 64.

Owen Bates, who won Development Tour events in Milton Keynes and Leicester earlier this year, bowed out in the Last 32 against Dutchman Bradley van der Velden.

Bates was instead able to bounce back in Event 12, despite suffering defeat in the final to Jannis Barkhausen.

After reaching the semi-finals of Event 11, the German went one better to reach the final on Friday evening - powering past Owen Bates 5-2 on home soil.

The 24-year-old began by picking up victories over Jerome Felder, Daan Beernink, Adam Gawlas, James Beaton and Cayden Smith - dropping just two legs on his route to the quarter-finals.

From here, Barkhausen defeated Finn Chudziak 5-3, and followed up with a statement 5-1 victory over Beau Greaves.

In the final, Barkhausen took an early 2-0 lead - taking advantage of a below-par Bates. The Englishman responded with a 12-darter in the third leg, but was eventually beaten by the German, who closed out a landmark 5-2 victory.

Elsewhere, Mason Whitlock - son of Australian legend Simon Whitlock - struck nine-dart perfection in his Last 128 game against Ronan McDonagh. However, the Irishman went on to win the contest, eventually losing 4-0 to Beau Greaves in the following round.

The 2025 Winmau Development Tour season continues with Events 13-14 on Saturday, before the weekend's action concludes on Sunday with Event 15.

The top two players from the 2025 Development Tour Order of Merit will each win a PDC Tour Card for 2026-27 and a place in the 2025/26 Paddy Power World Darts Championship.

As a result of Friday’s performances, Jannis Barkhausen has moved into fifth on the Development Tour Order of Merit - with Beau Greaves still occupying the top spot.
