Brody Klinge claimed back-to-back Dartplayers Australia ProTour titles at the weekend, as Joe Comito retained his position at the top of the DPA Order of Merit.
The Commercial Club in Albury played host to Events 10-12 on June 14-15, and it was Klinge who took centre stage with a series of terrific performances in New South Wales.
Former Tour Card Holder Gordon Mathers also added to his title tally over the weekend, overturning a 4-2 deficit to deny Klinge in Saturday’s Event Ten showpiece.
Mathers - a four-time World Championship qualifier - kicked off his campaign with a whitewash win over Corey Fortington, and after recording 6-3 victories against Tommy Hyland and Stuart Coburn, he fought back from 5-3 down to defeat James Bailey in the last four.
Klinge also came through a deciding-leg tie against Order of Merit leader Comito at the same stage of Event Ten, before bouncing back from defeat against Mathers with a run of ten consecutive wins.
The 32-year-old produced a superb display of combination finishing to dispatch Brandon Weening 6-1 in the Event 11 finale, converting 75, 56, 58, 59, 99 and 54 checkouts in the process.
This was preceded by successive 6-4 wins against Jordan Mathers and Koha Kokiri, and having averaged almost 97 in his opening round drubbing of Andrew Nielsen, he then fought back from 5-4 adrift to edge past Zac Spain in round two.
Klinge later rounded off the weekend’s treble-header with Event 12 success, averaging 92.91 to demolish Keith Charchalis in three straight sets.
The Melbourne thrower also registered straight-set victories over Jeremy Fagg, Bill Aitken and Brandon Weening on his way to glory, before coming through a gruelling five-set battle against Jordan Mathers in the semi-finals.
Following the conclusion of Event 12, Comito remains poised to confirm his World Darts Championship return, boasting a significant lead over his closest challenger Bailey with six events remaining, while Klinge’s exploits have catapulted him up to third.
Comito also came out on top in Friday’s third NZ Darts Masters Qualifier, defeating Klinge 6-4 in a high-quality affair to boost his hopes of sealing a spot in August’s World Series of Darts event in Auckland.
The 2025 DPA season continues next month, as Events 13-15 take place in Warilla from July 11-13, alongside the fourth and final NZ Darts Masters Qualifier.
