Hazel & Aitken Share DPA Wins

PHILLIP HAZEL and Bill Aitken won the latest DPA Australian Grand Prix events, which were held at the Penrith Gaels Club.

Hazel took victory in Saturday's tournament with a narrow 6-5 win over Marlou Sarabia, having also defeated Col Embrey, Jerry Weyman and Sean Reed in the knockout stages.

Sunday's event saw Aitken take victory in a deciding leg against Reed in the final, in what proved his toughest game of the knockout phase following earlier wins over John Bunyard, Jerry Weyman and Mick McCreadie.

Order of Merit leader Anthony Fleet narrowly missed out on a place in the final, losing 6-5 to Reed in the semis after picking up a deciding-leg win over former champion Brian Roach in the last eight.

Reed's success in reaching one final and one semi-final during the weekend has seen him close the gap in the Order of Merit to Fleet, who has amassed 240 ranking points this year to Reed's 220, with Aitken and Fagg their closest rivals on 144 points.

The next events will be held on June 25 and 26 at the Northern Districts Darts Club in Adelaide.
