Taylor Seeks Further Improvement

PHIL TAYLOR is still looking to improve further, despite landing another nine-darter in the McCoy's Premier League Darts on Thursday.

The 15-time World Champion has embarked on a new fitness and nutrition regime since suffering a shock exit to Dave Chisnall in the second round of the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship in December.

Although he remains as the world number one and began his 2012 campaign by winning the Cash Converters World Cup of Darts with Adrian Lewis, Taylor entered the Premier League insisting he had plenty of improvement left.

He averaged 112 in a draw with Adrian Lewis on the opening night of the Premier League before landing his 11th televised nine-darter in an 8-5 win over Kevin Painter in Aberdeen on Thursday.

"It shows that whatever I'm doing, I'm doing right," he said. "I'm exercising, I'm lifting weights, eating very healthily and doing everything right.

"Players are always changing things and sometimes it doesn't work but whatever I am doing, it's working for me. Hopefully I'll get even better.

"I want to see how good I can get in the next couple of years. I don't want to retire getting beaten every week, I want to hit more nine-darters and keep pushing until I exhaust myself.

"That's me, I want to keep pushing myself."

Taylor had trailed Painter 5-3 in Aberdeen, but hit the nine-darter amongst a brilliant run of five successive legs which took him to victory without his opponent being allowed another dart at a double.

"I knew I had to do something extraordinary to crack him. I knew I could do it, as long as I concentrated and got everything right; my stance, my aim, my follow through.

"He opened the leg with a 140 and I thought 'come on now' and didn't think about it. It's when you start thinking that you don't do the nine-darter."

Taylor admitted he had been impressed by both Painter and fellow Premier League Darts newcomer Andy Hamilton, who both won on the opening week but were defeated at the AECC.

"Kevin and Andy are enjoying it and soaking up the atmosphere," he said. "Even though he got beaten in Aberdeen, Andy came off stage saying he loved it.

"It's a fantastic tournament and it's up there with the World Championship as the biggest in the game now."
