Speedy Find Stoke Qualifiers

FOUR further players have won places in the Speedy Services UK Open through the Speedy Stoke Qualifier - which included a record 15-dart total from Steve Mason before he won his place in Bolton.

The Speedy Qualifiers for the UK Open will produce 32 amateurs who will compete alongside the sport's leading names in the televised finals in Bolton from June 7-10.

The fifth of six public qualifying events held in Speedy stores nationwide saw Steve Mason, Paul Whitworth, David Pallett and Paul Harvey all win through.

Mason, a joiner from Stoke, had hit a record score of 654 in the first phase of the qualifier, where players throw 15 darts in a bid to record one of the eight highest scores.

Those players then faced off in knockout legs of 701 for the right to win through to Bolton.

Salford-based landlord Paul Whitworth, who has played in five previous UK Opens, earned his return to the Reebok Stadium by winning through, alongside Nottingham-based Paul Harvey and Shropshire's David Pallett, who had also qualified for the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship last year.

The final Speedy Qualifier will be played at Speedy Cardiff on Thursday April 19, and will be followed by Speedy's employees-only event in Haydock on May 4, where the final eight qualifiers are determined.
