Speedy Services UK Open Draw

THE draw for the Speedy Services UK Open televised finals will be made on Thursday May 10 at the Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle.

The draw will feature the Preliminary, First and Second Round draws for the UK Open, which will be played from June 7-10 in Bolton and feature a mixture of both professional stars and amateur qualifiers.

The players ranked from 65-96 (including ties) from the UK Open Order of Merit are joined by the 64 amateur qualifiers in the draw for the Preliminary Round and First Round, giving a total of 114 competitors at that stage.

The players ranked from 33-64 will enter the UK Open in the Second Round later on Thursday night, with the top 32 professionals coming in on Friday night in the Third Round.

The 'open draw' format of the UK Open has led to the tournament being nicknamed 'The FA Cup of Darts' - with the prospect of leading players being drawn together at any stage.

This year's First Round draw includes 2003 runner-up Shayne Burgess - who is one of the Rileys Amateur Qualifiers - as well as Paul Nicholson, Ted Hankey, Steve Beaton, Wayne Jones and last year's semi-finalist Denis Ovens.

Reigning champion James Wade, Mark Webster - another of last year's semi-finalists - 2004 winner Roland Scholten, former finalist Colin Osborne, Mervyn King, Ronnie Baxter and Jelle Klaasen all enter at the Second Round stage.

The draw for the Third Round will be made in Bolton at the end of the Second Round play on Thursday June 7, with the likes of Phil Taylor, Raymond van Barneveld, Adrian Lewis, Gary Anderson and Wes Newton all coming into the event at that stage.
