Pipe Up For Double Challenge

JUSTIN PIPE will enter the PartyPoker.com World Grand Prix full of confidence following his victory in Championship League Darts last Wednesday.

The Taunton ace enjoyed a dream debut in the internet-streamed Championship League when he defeated Phil Taylor to win Group Two at Crondon Park.

The victory earned him a place in the big-money Winners Group of the tournament on November 1 - but was also a form boost for the 40-year-old ahead of next week's World Grand Prix.

Pipe will play recent European Championship winner Simon Whitlock in the first round of the World Grand Prix on Monday night, having been a first round loser on his debut at the Citywest Hotel 12 months ago.

"I love the format," said Pipe. "Although I lost to John Henderson in the first round last year, I really enjoyed it.

"It was my first time last year so I know what to expect this year, but I really do like the double start.

"I probably couldn't have a much worse opponent in Simon because he's one of the best double hitters in the game, so I'm going to have to hit my doubles pretty quickly!

"Simon's hitting a good bit of form at the moment and he's a fantastic darts player, so I know what I've got to do to beat him. If I can turn up and play well then who knows what will happen."

Pipe added: "It was important to take a win away from Championship League Darts and it's a fantastic confidence booster.

"I'm looking forward to the ProTour events now in Dublin, I'll get them out of the way and then get the game underway with Simon in the World Grand Prix."
