Anderson Denies Nine-Dart Mathers

KYLE ANDERSON denied nine-dart hero Gordon Mathers an AGP double on the second day of the Oceanic Masters weekend in Canberra.

Mathers had won Friday's DartPlayers Australia event by defeating Russell Stewart in the final and again showed superb form during Saturday's second event of the weekend.

He hit a nine-dart finish during a narrow 6-5 quarter-final win over Greg Major and then defeated Craig Gwynne to reach the final, but was denied another Australian Grand Prix win by Anderson, who prevailed 6-3.

Anderson saw off Mick Lean, Robbie King and Harley Kemp in the knockout stage of the event, while AGP Order of Merit leader Shane Tichowitsch was amongst the quarter-finalists.

The DPA season will conclude on Sunday with the prestigious Oceanic Masters event, which will see the champion qualify to compete in the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship at London's Alexandra Palace in December.
