Nicholson Chasing European Glory

PAUL NICHOLSON has set his sights on glory on the PDC's European Tour, as he prepares for the European Darts Trophy in Sindelfingen.

The former Players Championship Finals winner was the runner-up in last year's Dutch Darts Trophy event in Holland, and is a big fan of the European Tour format.

The 64-player, three-day events continue this weekend with the year's second £100,000 tournament being held at the Glaspalast in Sindelfingen, Germany - where around 2,000 fans are expected to watch the action.

Nicholson admits that he is looking to emulate recent UK Masters winner John Part by taking home a £20,000 first prize this year.

"I enjoyed the European Tour last year, it’s been a great introduction by the PDC," he said, on his official website.

"The prize money is good and it is a step up from the floor tournaments. It is good preparation for the TV events and it is certainly something I want to win a tournament in.

"It might not be the first or second one but I am really determined to win one of the events this year."

Nicholson opens his challenge against Belgian qualifier Ronny Huybrechts on Saturday afternoon, and added: "I played well in Wigan a couple of weeks ago and got wins against a few players who have been getting the better of me, so that one weekend has done a world of good for my confidence and I think I can make good progress this year.

"Last year I was getting frustrated with some of the draws I was getting. I always seemed to be getting drawn against my so-called bogey players.

"But I have begun to realise that every game is different and there is no such think as a bogey player and if I believe that there is then I am half beaten before a dart has been thrown."
