Speedy Qualifiers Set To Kick Off

THE Amateur Qualifiers for the Speedy Services UK Open will commence on Monday night with the first of four Speedy-organised events at Glasgow's Hampden Park.

A total of 32 amateur players will qualify for June's UK Open from the Speedy Qualifiers, which are open to non-professional players.

Around 150 competitors are expected to attend Monday's first of four Speedy Qualifiers at Hampden Park, one of four iconic sporting venues across the UK which is hosting the events.

The second Speedy Qualifier will be held on Wednesday April 17 at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium, where over 200 players have entered - including former UK Open amateur qualifiers Anastasia Dobromyslova, Stephen Bunting, one-time World Championship quarter-finalist Gary Welding and Alan Tabern Jnr, whose father was a semi-finalist in the 2006 UK Open.

The final two Speedy Qualifiers will be held next week, at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall - the home of the Grand Slam of Darts - on April 22 and at Alexandra Palace on April 24, where the final eight places in June's UK Open will be decided at the famous London venue which hosts the World Championship.

Former World Champion Keith Deller - pictured above at the 2005 UK Open - will be bidding to make a comeback on the big stage at the Wolves Civic Qualifier, alongside son Matthew.
