Newton Keen For Bolton Glory

WES NEWTON is looking to take his McCoy's Premier League Darts experience into his challenge at the Speedy Services UK Open this weekend.

The Fleetwood ace enjoyed a debut Premier League Darts campaign earlier this year, producing some strong displays before being relegated, along with Gary Anderson, after nine weeks.

However, Newton believes that the experience of competing in the country's biggest arenas, and taking on his rivals inside the world's top eight on a weekly basis, will only benefit him.

"The Premier League was probably the best experience of my darting career," said Newton. "To play in the arenas we did in front of the big crowds week-in, week-out was really good and I loved every minute.

"Playing on that stage can only give you great experience going into other TV events and I had nine weeks of it. It was a brilliant experience and I think it will make me a better player.

"I want to do well this year now to try and get back in it in 2014, so that's a big aim for me. Doing well in the UK Open would be a great start!"

Newton reached the final of the UK Open two years ago, and although he is under pressure to defend that £20,000 prize money on the PDC Order of Merit in Bolton this weekend, is in confident mood.

"I'm feeling good and I've been playing well in the last few weeks, so I'm looking forward to the UK Open," adds Newton, who will enter 'The FA Cup of Darts' at the third round stage on Friday.

"I usually do quite well at Bolton. I made the final in 2011 and the quarter-finals last year, which was great for me, but it's my goal with everything now to always try and go one step further.

"It's been a good year up to now. I've won one European Tour event, over in Germany in April, and I want to keep improving all the time."
