Platt Secures Sydney Qualifying Spot

DAVID PLATT was the third player to win a spot in the Sydney Darts Masters through the DPA Qualifier on Tuesday.

Platt, who was born in the UK and previously competed on the PDC circuit before emigrating to Perth, completes the three players to win places in the Luna Park event at the DPA Qualifiers in Warilla.

He followed up wins over Scott Johnson, Paul Neighbour and Aaron Petty in the early rounds of Tuesday's knockout by defeating Monday's runner-up Kerry Whear in the last 16.

He then saw off Australian legend Russell Stewart in the quarter-finals and edged out Dave Muller 6-5 in the semis before taking victory over Ray Kingston in the final.

Kingston actually led the final 2-1 early on as the opening three legs went with the throw, but Platt levelled, broke in the fifth leg and took the next three without reply to move through to the Sydney Darts Masters.

Kingston had overcome Sunday's Qualifier One runner-up Ben Gaitor in the quarter-finals and saw off Darren Herewini 6-2 in the semis, but was unable to progress.

The final place in this week's Sydney Darts Masters will now go to the leading non-qualified player from Wednesday's DPA Oceanic Masters, which will complete the four days of action at the Warilla Bowls Club.
