Marriage Proposal At Grand Slam!

CHRIS BUXTON ensured an unforgettable first visit to the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts on Sunday night - by proposing to partner Janine Ward on stage at the Wolves Civic.

The Leicester-based couple had travelled to Wolverhampton to watch the tournament's final between Phil Taylor and Robert Thornton.

Chris, however, had a surprise up his sleeve after contacting the event's organisers in advance to set up the marriage proposal.

Master of Ceremonies John McDonald initially announced that Chris had won a random draw to come on stage and throw for the bullseye to win a free bet from sponsors William Hill.

But, after being given the traditional darts walk-on to "Chase The Sun" alongside walk-on girls Daniella Allfree and Sammi Marsh, Chris dropped to one knee before Janine tearfully accepted his proposal.

"We both love darts and we've been wanting to come to the Grand Slam for a while," said Chris. "I'd been thinking about asking Janine to marry me for a while and this was an ideal place.

"I was really nervous and I'm delighted that Janine said yes - we've got to plan the wedding now!"

Janine admitted: "I thought we were going to throw darts on stage and I wasn't looking forward to it, but for Chris to propose was a huge surprise.

"I wasn't expecting it - I'm lost for words."
