BetVictor World Matchplay Update

TWO European Tour events remain before the cut-off for BetVictor World Matchplay qualification.

The BetVictor World Matchplay will feature a 32-player field competing at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool from July 19-27.

The top 16 players from the main PDC Order of Merit will qualify by right and be seeded for the first round, where they are drawn against the 16 seeds from the ProTour Order of Merit.

Following last weekend's Players Championship double-header in Coventry, only two more events remain before the cut-off, with both being European Tour events to be held in Salzburg and Gibraltar over the next two weekends.

Kim Huybrechts and Terry Jenkins are the only two players who can break into the world's top 16 in that time, although both will also qualify through the ProTour Order of Merit following their success in the past 12 months.

The current field of 16 ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers includes two players who are in line to make their World Matchplay debuts this summer, Stephen Bunting and Andrew Gilding.

Jelle Klaasen, Stuart Kellett, Jamie Lewis and Mark Webster are all within touching distance of the ProTour Order of Merit qualifying places, but other players would need to reach one of the European Tour finals to break into the top 16.

There will be no place in Blackpool this year, though, for 2005 World Matchplay champion Colin Lloyd, who misses out for the first time in 15 years having slipped down the rankings and also not qualified to compete in Austria or Gibraltar.

Tickets for the BetVictor World Matchplay are available now from www.blackpoollive.com and via 0844 856 1111.

The draw for the tournament is expected to take place in the week following the Gibraltar Darts Trophy, with the schedule of play to follow that.
