Ankle Injury Sidelines MvG

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has withdrawn from the Austrian Darts Open due to an ankle injury.

The World Champion has had a recurrence of the ankle injury which he suffered earlier this year and forced him to miss a Players Championship double-header in Wigan in May.

As a result, his intended second round opponent in the Austrian Darts Open on Saturday, Dean Winstanley, now receives a bye into the last 16 of the European Tour event.

Kim Huybrechts' game with Dutch youngster Benito van de Pas will now move to Saturday's evening session to give eight games, with the afternoon session now featuring seven matches.
