Grand Prix Race In Home Straight

THE field for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix will be confirmed following this weekend's European Darts Trophy in Germany, with a host of players having plenty to play for in Leipzig.

The 2014 partypoker.com World Grand Prix will be held from October 6-12 at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, as 32 players compete live on Sky Sports in the famous double-start tournament.

The top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit will qualify by right for the tournament - but last weekend's Players Championship double-header in Crawley led to Ian White jumping back into the world's top 16 at the expense of Raymond van Barneveld.

However, the five-time World Champion - and former World Grand Prix finalist - would still qualify at present through the ProTour Order of Merit, where 14 players plus the top two ranked Irish/Northern Irish players are selected from.

Jelle Klaasen, Benito van de Pas and Ronny Huybrechts will all hope to firstly qualify for this weekend's European Darts Trophy before embarking on runs which could put them into contention to claim a late place in the World Grand Prix.

Northern Irish pair Michael Mansell and Daryl Gurney are the current two "home" qualifiers for the World Grand Prix - alongside world number 13 Brendan Dolan - although Ireland's William O'Connor will compete in Leipzig and would qualify by reaching the quarter-finals this weekend at the expense of Gurney.

With the partypoker.com World Grand Prix featuring eight seeds, Robert Thornton, Mervyn King and Andy Hamilton will all have their sights set on claiming glory in Leipzig to take a place in the world's top eight.

Tickets for the partypoker.com World Grand Prix are available from http://pdc.seetickets.com, or by calling 0844 871 8807 (UK) and 0818 776 378 (Ireland).
