JOHN MICHAEL will make his third consecutive appearance at the William Hill World Darts Championship after beating Javier Toquero in the final of the Southern Europe Qualifier in Avila, Spain.
A field of 333 faced off with ambitions of qualifying for December’s World Championship at Alexandra Palace, but it was Greece’s Michael who emerged victorious.
The 42-year-old battled his way in to the last 16 where he faced Scott Worsnop, who he comfortably defeated with a 6-0 whitewash.
Michael was then tested in the quarter-finals by Jesus Noguera of Spain. The soft-tip specialist made the six-time Greek Open winner work hard for a 6-4 win to move him in to the last four.
Another Spaniard, former World Championship qualifier Julio Barbero, waited in the semi-final. However, Michael was too strong, eventually coming out a 6-3 winner.
The final saw Michael clash with Javier Toquero, who had beaten the likes of Daniel Delgado, Pedro de los Santos and Gibraltar's Dyson Parody on his way to the last two.
Michael booked his place at the World Championship in style beating his Spanish opponent by six legs to nil in a very one sided final.
The World Championship begins on December 15 at Alexandra Palace in North London, where Michael will aim to progress past the last 64 for the first time in his career.
