Cadby Seals World Championship Spot

AUSTRALIAN sensation Corey Cadby will make his William Hill World Darts Championship debut in December after securing victory in the DPA Australian Grand Prix rankings on Saturday as Rob Szabo and Cody Harris won the last two ranking events.

Tasmania-born Cadby has enjoyed a superb debut year on the DPA circuit after relocating to Melbourne, tussling with David Platt to top the domestic standings as the pair dominated the Australian-based events.

Platt went into the final two ranking events of the year at Mollymook Beach Bowling Club just one point ahead of Cadby, whose better performances on Friday and Saturday saw him take the spoils.

Platt was defeated in the last 16 on both days, with Cadby reaching the quarter-finals on Friday and semi-finals on Saturday - and though he missed out on another event victory the youngster did enough to secure top spot and World Championship qualification.

New Zealand's Szabo went on to take victory in Friday's tournament, whitewashing Damon Heta 6-0 in the final after seeing off Kiwi World Cup representative Harris in the semi-finals.

Auckland's emerging star Harris bounced back on Saturday to go all the way to victory, dropping just one leg in each of his quarter-final and semi-final wins over Damon Heta and Mike Bonser before edging out Rhys Mathewson 6-5 in the final.

Mathewson - who qualified for his TV debut at the Ladbrokes Sydney Darts Masters in August, where he knocked out James Wade - followed up his run to Friday's semi-final by reaching the final 24 hours later in an encouraging run.

The DPA season will conclude on Sunday with the DPA Harrows Oceanic Masters, which will see the winner join Cadby in progressing to compete at the World Championship in December.

Cadby's qualification for the World Championship follows up his brilliant win over Phil Taylor in the TABtouch Perth Darts Masters in August, while he will return to the UK later this month to contest the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship final against Berry van Peer on November 27 in Minehead, live on ITV4.
