Roy Amongst Rileys Qualifiers

Alex Roy

ALEX ROY will extend his ever-present record in the Coral UK Open TV Finals in March after being amongst the eight Rileys Amateur Qualifiers to win through on the second weekend of knockouts.

The 42-year-old from Watford, a two-time UK Open quarter-finalist, won through at the Rileys Sports Bar in Harlow to remain one of the eight players to have played in every UK Open since the event was introduced in 2003.

Essex-based coach builder Kevin Edwards, 44, won through the Rileys Norwich Qualifier to secure his third UK Open appearance, after previously competing in the event in 2011 and 2015.

Nicky Bell, a plasterer from Mansfield Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire, celebrated his 28th birthday in style as he won through from Rileys Nottingham to secure his first UK Open appearance.

Ben Green, a 31-year-old sales executive from Cheltenham, won through the Rileys Coventry Qualifier while James Carroll, a 22-year-old decorator from Prescot, won the Rileys Liverpool event.

Wayne Morris, a 37-year-old ground worker from Auchtermuchty and a former Scottish youth champion, was the Rileys Greenock winner.

Sunday's knockouts saw Hampshire's Paul Hogan win through from Rileys South Benfleet, securing his fourth successive UK Open appearance after previously reaching the last 32 in both 2014 and 2015.

Doncaster-based Brandon Walsh - the second cousin of former World Matchplay champion Rod Harrington - won the Rileys Leicester knockout to secure his second UK Open appearance, having previously qualified for the 2011 tournament.

A total of 32 Rileys Amateur Qualifiers will compete in this year's Coral UK Open TV Finals at the Butlins Minehead Resort from March 3-5, where they compete against many of the sport's top names in the multi-board tournament.

The Rileys Amateur Qualifiers continue with another ten knockouts from February 3-5 in the third of four weekends of action in Rileys Sports Bars across the UK.
