Smith Claims Final Grand Slam Spot

Michael Smith (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

MICHAEL SMITH has secured a place in the bwin Grand Slam of Darts, with the final eight spots in the field for the Wolverhampton event to be confirmed at Monday's PDC Tour Card Holders' Qualifier.

The bwin Grand Slam of Darts brings together stars from both the PDC and BDO systems as they compete from November 11-19 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall, live on Sky Sports.

The weekend's World Series of Darts Finals in Glasgow was the final PDC televised event to count towards automatic qualification for the 2017 Grand Slam of Darts, with Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson reaching the final.

With that duo already having qualified, former World Youth Champion Smith secured his place in Wolverhampton as a European Tour event winner from the reserve list, following his triumph in May's Gibraltar Darts Trophy.

Smith's inclusion completes the 16 automatic PDC qualifiers, with Van Gerwen and Anderson joined by TV event winners Phil Taylor, Peter Wright, Daryl Gurney, Mensur Suljovic, Raymond van Barneveld and Corey Cadby.

James Wade, Simon Whitlock, Gerwyn Price, Rob Cross, Dave Chisnall, Berry van Peer and Mark Webster all qualified by reaching televised finals during the past 12 months.

The final eight spots will go to players from the PDC Tour Card Holders' Qualifier in Wigan, which will take place on Monday afternoon following the conclusion of the PDC Unicorn World Youth Championship Last 64.

Tickets for the bwin Grand Slam of Darts are available through www.wolvescivic.co.uk or by calling 0870 320 7000.
