Las Vegas Return Excites Van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen (PDC)

WORLD number one Michael van Gerwen has spoken of his excitement at returning to Las Vegas for this week's William Hill US Darts Masters.

The Dutch superstar is amongst a host of top stars set to take to the stage at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino alongside the cream of north American talent from July 5-7.

Van Gerwen was the winner of last year's inaugural US Darts Masters, and after claiming a 15th tournament win of 2018 in Germany last weekend is eager to get on stage in Las Vegas.

"Any tournament I'm competing in I want to win and this is another trophy I really want to get my hands on," said Van Gerwen.

"The US Masters in Las Vegas is a special tournament to play in - it’s a phenomenal set-up in an amazing place, what more can you ask for as a dart player?

"The World Series tournaments are very important for myself and for darts in general – we want to get as many people as possible playing the game all over the world.

"It's great for darts that we are getting more players from around the world, as we saw at the World Cup of Darts earlier this year, and this is a great way of getting more and more players from new countries.

"It's always fantastic to play in World Series events, they are always top level tournaments in amazing places around the world."

Play at Mandalay Bay begins on Tuesday with the first two of four qualifiers, which conclude on Wednesday and feature over 170 players from the USA and Canada.

Thursday sees the eight north American qualifiers compete in the William Hill North American Championship, which will see the winner progress to play in the World Championship in London in December.

The top PDC stars, with Van Gerwen joined by the likes of World Champion Rob "Voltage" Cross and colourful Peter "Snakebite" Wright, then enter the action as the US Darts Masters begins on Friday.

The first round ties on Friday will be followed on Saturday with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final before the US Darts Masters champion is crowned.

Play will commence at 12pm from July 5-7 in the South Pacific Ballroom at Mandalay Bay. For event information, see pdc.tv/vegas.

Worldwide TV broadcasts include coverage on bbcamerica.com and through the DartsBBCA page on Facebook.
