How Premier League Play-Off Debutants Have Fared

Michael van Gerwen (Lawrence Lustig, PDC)

DARYL GURNEY will be hoping to become just the fourth player in Unibet Premier League history to lift the title in a debut Play-Off appearance at The O2 on Thursday.

Phil Taylor was the inaugural Premier League champion in 2005, while Gary Anderson and Michael van Gerwen both won the competition in their debut campaigns of 2011 and 2013 respectively.

Gurney, therefore, could become the first player in the tournament's 14-year history to lift the title in his debut Play-Off appearance but not his debut Premier League campaign.

Colin Lloyd, Terry Jenkins, James Wade, Mervyn King, Peter Wright and Michael Smith are the six players to finish runner-up in their first shot at the Play-Offs.

The other nine Play-Off debutants were losing semi-finalists, resulting in a 50% strike-rate in Play-Off debutants winning their semi-final match.
