Burnett Feels The Power!

RICHIE BURNETT came to within a whisker of claiming the Shoalhaven Classic AGP tournament on Sunday, losing 6-5 in the final to Glen Power.

Burnett has travelled to Australia alongside Andy Jenkins, John Part and Stan James World Matchplay champion James Wade to compete in the forthcoming William Cross Pro-Am.

He and Jenkins arrived in time to compete in the latest Australian Grand Prix event, with the Welshman winning through to the final.

He whitewashed Craig Stroosima 5-0 in the semi-finals, averaging over 96 and hitting two 11-darters, and gave himself a chance to win the final in the deciding leg.

However, he missed three darts at double 16 and Power returned to the oche to check out 58 for victory.

Power - who also won last week's tournament at the Punchbowl Ex-Serviceman's Club - defeated current AGP leader Simon Whitlock 4-2 in the quarter-finals and Phil Botterill 5-4 in the semis.

Jenkins was a last 16 casualty to Craig Prizeman with a 3-2 defeat to a player making an impressive comeback on the AGP circuit.

The Park Trent Properties Australian Grand Prix will take place from Thursday-Sunday at the Dapto Leagues Club in Wollongong, NSW.

The top eight players in the AGP rankings qualify by right for the main, 32-man event alongside the four PDC stars, with the remainder of the field comprised of qualifiers.

Unicorn Challenge events will also be played on Thursday and Friday evening, while an International Test Match will be played on Saturday night.

Part, Wade, Jenkins and Burnett will come up against the Australian side of Whitlock, Steve Macarthur and Glen Power, which will be captained by Russell Stewart.
