Co Stompe Joins PDC Circuit

DUTCH star Co Stompe has moved onto the Professional Darts Corporation circuit and will make his debut in this weekend's Bristol Trade Centre Players Championships.

The 45-year-old from Amsterdam, nicknamed the Matchstick, has been a leading player on the BDO/WDF circuit for the past decade, winning his first title at the 1998 Europe Cup.

A semi-finalist in the 2000 Lakeside Championship and the Swiss Open and British Classic winner in 2007, he has now opted to move onto the PDC circuit.

The BDO number 11 and WDF ranked number 17, Stompe follows several other Dutch stars - led by Raymond van Barneveld - in deciding to ply their trade on the £3 million-plus PDC circuit in recent years.

The news forms part of a pivotal week in Stompe's life, having enjoyed a wedding to Danielle on Tuesday - after proposing following his part in Holland's World Cup victory last year.

He will be in action this weekend in two Players Championship tournaments to be held in Bristol, as he attempts to qualify for the Stan James World Matchplay and kick off his Pro Tour challenge.

Stompe's move follows the recent decision of Scotland's Robert Thornton, then the BDO number one, to join the PDC circuit.
