THE race for places in the partypoker.com World Grand Prix will go right to the wire this weekend in the final two Players Championship events before the cut-off for October's Dublin spectacular.
Following the two Players Championship events in Barnsley on Saturday September 26 and Sunday September 27, the 32-player field for this year's World Grand Prix will be finalised.
The top 16 players from the PDC Order of Merit will qualify by right, alongside 14 players from the ProTour Order of Merit and the leading two players from Ireland/Northern Ireland from the ProTour Order of Merit.
Currently, Raymond van Barneveld holds 16th place in the PDC Order of Merit, with a provisional £2,250 lead on Vincent van der Voort, with Justin Pipe and Stephen Bunting also still able to break into the top 16 this weekend with a tournament win.
Van der Voort, Pipe and Bunting, however, are amongst the ProTour Order of Merit qualifiers alongside Dutch duo Jelle Klaasen and Benito van de Pas, Austrian ace Mensur Suljovic and Wales' Gerwyn Price.
The battle at the lower end of the qualifying places, though, sees Jamie Caven just £250 behind Mark Webster - who currently occupies the final provisional qualifying spot - with Jamie Lewis, Keegan Brown, Joe Murnan and Andrew Gilding all £1,000 or less ahead of the Derby ace.
Daryl Gurney and William O'Connor currently occupy the two places for players from Ireland and Northern Ireland, although Mickey Mansell will be aiming to oust one of them with a good run in Barnsley.
