GERMAN star Max Hopp reached his first PDC European Tour quarter-final with victory over Terry Jenkins as the final day of the HappyBet European Darts Matchplay began on Sunday afternoon with the third round at the Inselparkhalle in Hamburg, Germany.
PDC Unicorn World Youth Champion Hopp averaged 95.98 and was clinical on his doubles, landing six out of nine as he knocked out the nine-time major finalist.
Hopp's win, in front of a sell-out crowd, means that he will return to the stage in Sunday's decisive final session to compete in the quarter-finals, where he takes on number two seed Peter Wright.
Wright averaged 99.89 on his way to a 6-3 win over Jamie Caven, hitting four maximums and only trailing in the match once as he booked his place in the last eight.
Mensur Suljovic was the first man to book his place in the quarter-finals, beating Michael Smith in a last leg decider.
Neither man could pull away from their opponent in a match that saw seven breaks of throw, but it was Suljoivc who held his nerve and claimed victory in the final leg.
A single break of throw was enough to book Dave Chisnall a spot in the quarter-final. The pair had traded holds until the tenth leg when the Englishman landed D16 to secure the win.
Chisnall averaged 100.87 and hit three 180s on his way to victory.
James Wade moved impressively in to the last eight, beating World Champion Gary Anderson 6-2.
The Machine averaged 100.92 and hit almost 67% of his double attempts on his way to the win.
Benito van de Pas punished some poor finishing from fellow Dutchman Vincent van der Voort to secure a last eight place.
Van der Voort hit only three of 17 attempts at the double which allowed van de Pas to move comfortably through with a 93.44 average.
Jelle Klaasen had to come from 3-0 down to claim a 6-4 victory over Adrian Lewis, who took out finishes of 144 and 120.
Klaasen took out 150 to get his first leg on the board and went on to win five of the next six legs after that.
Michael van Gerwen booked his place in yet another European Tour quarter-final with a 6-4 victory over Daryl Gurney.
The world number one averaged over 100 to conlude the afternoon session as he continued his bid to win a fourth successive European Tour event of 2016.
