Over 300 Chasing Final Bolton Spots

OVER 300 players will be bidding to win the final 32 places in the Blue Square UK Open when the Holsten Pub Qualifier Regional Finals take place this weekend.

Four venues around the UK will stage Regional Finals on Saturday and Sunday, with eight players from each event earning a place at the Reebok Stadium next month.

Several players who have previously come through the pub qualifiers to win a place in the UK Open will be looking to repeat the feat this time around, including Geoff Harkup, Nicky Turner, Johnny Haines, Nigel Langton, Mark Hylton - who defeated Ray Carver in Bolton last year - and Sam Rooney.

Rooney (pictured) produced the best performance of last year's pub qualifiers, reaching the last 32 before losing to Richie Burnett.

Anastasia Dobromyslova, the Lakeside Womens Champion, will be among the field in Leigh alongside 2007 World Masters winner Robert Thornton, Glenn Moody, who played in the 2005 UK Open as a pub qualifier, and former PDPA member Paul Whitworth.

The North-West Regional Final in Leigh will also feature Alan Tabern Jnr, the 20-year-old son of world number 13 Alan Tabern, who made his PDC debut as a pub qualifier in the 2005 UK Open.
