Priestley Comeback Earns Precious Win

Dennis Priestley 2-1 Roland Scholten (2-3, 3-2, 3-1)
Sky Bet World Grand Prix First Round

DENNIS PRIESTLEY produced a sensational comeback to dump Roland Scholten out of the Sky Bet World Grand Prix.

Dutchman Scholten - the number four in the world rankings - went to within a leg of the match when he led 2-1 in the second set.

But former World Champion Priestley saved the game by winning the next two legs before taking the decisive final set to cap a remarkable recovery.

He won the first leg with a 133 finish, and then bettered that when leading 2-1 with a 160 checkout to win the game, after Scholten missed double 18 for a 156 finish.

"It was unbelievable," said Priestley. "I went 2-0 up in the last set and then started snatching my darts.

"He let me off a couple of times, and then he hit the wire for that 156. If you look at how I'd played throughout the game, you wouldn't have thought I'd be able to hit a 160!

"I've watched darts for a long, long time and it's unbelievable - I'm amazed at myself to be honest, flabbergasted that I managed to pull that out."
