van Gerwen Ready For Rotterdam Rumble!

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has set his sights on Thursday's Betway Premier League showdown with Phil Taylor in Rotterdam after retaining his Peperami Gibraltar Darts Trophy title.

The world number one claimed a third successive European Tour win of the year with his 6-2 defeat of Dave Chisnall in Sunday night's final in Gibraltar.

The triumph saw van Gerwen retain his title in Gibraltar following another weekend of success as he won his ninth tournament of 2016, earning him a £25,000 top prize.

Van Gerwen will be challenging for another £25,000 cheque on Thursday when he takes on great rival Taylor in a shoot-out for the new Betway Premier League's League Leader's Bonus at a sold-out Rotterdam Ahoy.

The pair are locked on 24 points at the head of the table going into the final league night, with van Gerwen ahead on Leg Difference - meaning that a draw or a win will be enough for the Dutchman to top the table following the regular season for a fourth straight year.

"I want to win in front of my home crowd," said van Gerwen. "It means a lot, I want to play well and I'm ready to rumble in Ahoy.

"It's something amazing, I've never played in front of a crowd like that. For the first year in Rotterdam [to play Phil Taylor] I think they are being really treated - it's good for darts and good for Holland as well.

"It's going to be good for me I think that we play in Holland now because I've played in Scotland against Scottish people and in England against English people, and now finally we go to Holland.

"There is more pressure because you don't want to let all your fans down, so I'm going to prepare myself really well."
