Leonard Gates and Stowe Buntz added to their respective title hauls as the CDC ProTour season began in Niagara Falls over the weekend.

The 2025 Championship Darts Circuit commenced with the Winmau Darts Championship on Friday, with Gates claiming the spoils.

The 54-year-old defeated Canadian veteran David Cameron 7-4 to triumph in Event One, converting a majestic 170 checkout on his way to celebrating more silverware.

Gates – who also won the Cross-Border Darts Challenge last month – opened his campaign with a deciding-leg victory over Ram Guevara Jr, which was the closest he came to tasting defeat throughout the day.

The two-time World Championship qualifier also overcame Jeremiah Millar and Hossey Hicks, before whitewashing former World Matchplay champion Larry Butler in the quarter-finals.

This was followed by a 7-2 demolition of Adam Sevada in the semi-finals, while a crucial three-leg burst midway through the final was enough to deny Cameron in Friday’s showpiece.

Gates’ bid for back-to-back titles was thwarted by three-time World Champion John Part in Saturday’s Magic Darts Masters, as the Canadian icon closed out a 3-1 victory in sets.

However, it was former Grand Slam quarter-finalist Buntz who took the title, sealed with a 5-3 victory against former UK Open runner-up Gary Mawson.

Buntz battled through a five-set showdown with Rory Hansen in round two, although straight-set wins over Mike Walterman, Jay Waugh and Butler booked his place in the semi-finals.

The 46-year-old recorded a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Sevada in the last four, producing finishes of 100, 115, 127 and 130 to cap off a clinical display.

Buntz then defied a spirited fightback from Mawson to celebrate his sixth CDC ProTour title, landing back-to-back 15-darters to complete his latest triumph.

Saturday’s action also featured the first of two qualifiers for the bet365 US Darts Masters and North American Championship, which will take place in New York from June 27-28.

Sevada – who made his televised debut at last year’s US Darts Masters – confirmed his big stage return with a deciding-leg victory over Cameron in Saturday’s final.

Sevada overturned a 4-3 deficit with legs of 12 and 14 darts to prevail with a 97 average, having accounted for Doug Boehm and Mawson in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.
