Gerwyn Price believes a change in mindset has been the catalyst for his revival in this year’s BetMGM Premier League, as he bids to continue his terrific form on Night 15 in Aberdeen.
Price has already secured his spot in the Play-Offs with two nights of league action to spare, having claimed a hat-trick of nightly wins in Dublin, Nottingham and Liverpool.
The Welshman currently occupies third position in the table, with reigning champion Luke Littler and world number one Luke Humphries also assured of their places at The O2 in London on May 29.
Price’s performances in this year’s roadshow have been in stark contrast to his 2024 campaign, where he failed to register a nightly victory and finished the season with just 12 points to his name.
“I’m proud of myself for coming back from being under pressure and not playing particularly well,” revealed Price.
“It is tough trying to balance everything when you’re away and playing in the Premier League, but I think I’ve controlled myself a lot better this year.
“I’ve been a lot more positive in terms of the way I’ve approached the game, and because of that I’ve felt like I’ve enjoyed it a bit more.”
The P&J Live in Aberdeen will play host to the penultimate night of league phase action on Thursday, with Price up against Stephen Bunting in his quarter-final opener.
The former Masters champion is now playing for pride on Scottish soil, after his hopes of a top four finish were ended following his semi-final defeat to Humphries last Thursday.
Bunting lost his opening eight games in this year’s competition before denying Price to triumph on Night Nine in Berlin, although his resurgence came too late to mount a genuine Play-Off push.
Price, meanwhile, can still overhaul Humphries to finish second in the table, but the 2023 runner-up insists his focus is on preparing for the Play-Offs.
“If I’m second, third or fourth, it doesn’t really matter,” declared the 40-year-old.
“The vital thing for me was to get to The O2. It doesn’t matter who you play, you’re going to have to play really well to win the tournament.
“The pressure is off tonight, but I hate losing. I still want to win, and I’ll be putting the work in over the next two weeks to make sure I’m ready for the Play-Offs.
“I believe if I play my A-game, there is no way I will lose. Every time I go on stage, I expect to bring my best game out, but it doesn’t always happen!”
The 2025 BetMGM Premier League will be broadcast live on Sky Sports in the UK & Ireland, through the PDC's worldwide broadcast partners including DAZN and Viaplay, and on PDCTV for Rest of the World Subscribers (outside of the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria & Switzerland).
