PDC President Hearn supports Prostate Cancer screening day in Brentwood

PDC President Barry Hearn OBE is supporting a special Prostate Cancer Screening Event in Brentwood on July 9 2025.

The Matchroom founder was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer during 2024, undergoing successful surgery, and is now helping to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of the illness.

The past two Paddy Power World Darts Championships have seen The BIG 180 and The BIGGER 180 raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK, as well as further awareness.

Hearn is now using his involvement with Brentwood Town for the club to host a special screening day in July, organised with CHAPS Men's Health Charity.

"I want to use my voice to urge men to take their health seriously," said Hearn, who will also attend on the day.

"Take this opportunity and book yourself on for a test at Brentwood FC; it is a simple blood test and could save your life!"

The event takes place on Wednesday July 9 at Brentwood FC from 10am-2pm. Bookings can be made via the CHAPS website at this link.

Professor Chris Booth, Clinical Director and CHAPS founder, commented: "Prostate Cancer is now the commonest major cancer in UK men and the second commonest cancer killer now, causing 57,000 new cases and 13,000 deaths each year. A national screening programme could halve this death rate.

"Prostate Cancer usually grows slowly and causes no symptoms till it has spread. That is why screening needs to be done before symptoms arise.

"As one in four men with an abnormal PSA will have Prostate Cancer, this event could potentially save three or four lives through early detection of this silent killer."
