Muramatsu claims opening Asian Tour brace as Leung and Arihara pick up wins

Haruki Muramatsu (PDC)

Haruki Muramatsu picked up back-to-back Asian Tour titles in the opening weekend of action, as Man Lok Leung and Ryuta Arihara also triumphed in Dubai.

The opening four events of the 2026 PDC Asian Tour kicked off in the United Arab Emirates on Saturday and Sunday, with Muramatsu claiming Events One and Two on the first day of action.

The Japanese arrowsmith defeated World Championship star Motomu Sakai 5-4 in the final with a 94 average, winning three legs on the spin from 4-2 down to claim his fourth Asian Tour title.

The 2023 Asian Champion had survived a round three scare against Albert Bondoc, before dismissing Alexis Toylo in the quarter-finals and Altantulkhuur Myagmarsuren at the last four stage.

Muramatsu carried over his strong performances into Event Two later on Saturday to claim his fifth Asian Tour title and second of the day, blasting past Myagmarsuren 5-1 in the final with a 99 average.

The 48-year-old saw past Singaporean legend Paul Lim and India’s Nitin Kumar during a dominant run to the final, with all seven of his victories not requiring a last-leg decider.

Tseng Chi-Jui also recorded the joint-highest average ever seen on the Asian Tour, with an extraordinary 115.62 average in whitewashing Leung in round two.

On Sunday, Leung made amends by winning his eighth Asian Tour title after seeing off Alain AbiAbi 5-3 in the final of Event Three.

Hong Kong’s premier darts player conceded just a sole leg in reaching the semi-finals, including a whitewash win over Japan’s Ryusei Azemoto in the quarter-finals, before demolishing Eduardo Largo 5-1 with a 95 average to reach his 12th Asian Tour final.

In Event Four, Arihara won his maiden title on the Asian Tour and became the 30th winner on the circuit, surviving match darts to defeat Christian Perez 5-4 in the final.

The Japanese thrower picked up a trio of 4-1 wins before whitewashing Phuay Wei Tan, but then required three last-leg deciding wins against Lok Yin Lee, Lourence Ilagan, and finally Perez to claim Event Four glory.

Perez had taken out a nine-darter in his round two tie against fellow Philippine Rodel Enimedes, dropping a string of consistent performances before agonisingly ceding the final to Arihara.

The top five players on the PDC Asian Tour rankings following the conclusion of will qualify for the World Championship at the end of the year.

The Asian Tour will continue with Events 5-8 from Saturday April 4-Sunday April 5 in Shizuoka, Japan, with coverage shown on PDCTV from the last 16 onwards.
