Newton Bounces Back Into Form

Wes Newton 2-1 Steve Hine (3-1, 2-3, 3-1)
Sky Bet World Grand Prix First Round

WES NEWTON booked a place in the last 16 of the Sky Bet World Grand Prix with a 2-1 win over Steve Hine.

Newton showed that he is back to full fitness after suffering a broken collarbone in September, although he had to withstand a strong showing from the qualifier.

Newton took the first set 3-1 but Hine found his range to level matters in a tight second.

He began the deciding set with a 105 checkout to move ahead, but Newton was first to the double in the next three legs to seal the win.

"I'm so happy to get the win under my belt," said Newton. "I've been out for a month and back playing for just over two weeks.

"You try and push yourself to get back and I had a bit of pain, but that has gone now and the win has given me some confidence back and belief in myself.

"Reaching the semi-finals of the Las Vegas Desert Classic gave me that, and who knows what will happen this week!"
