Lloyd Takes Blackpool Glory - Again

COLIN LLOYD gained a second successive PDC title in Blackpool, with an 8-5 defeat of Ronnie Baxter giving him victory in The Bob Anderson Classic on Sunday.

Lloyd won the Stan James World Matchplay on his last visit to the north-west, and warmed up for his defence of the Sky Bet World Grand Prix in style this time around.

The world number one threw a total of 17 maximum 180's in his 7-2 semi-final win over Wayne Mardle and the final against Baxter, which he won 8-5 and averaged almost 103.

"It has been a good weekend for me," said Lloyd. "It's a major event, all the big names were here and I am pleased with how I played.

"The World Grand Prix will be different with the double-start, but this has filled me with a bit of confidence because I know I'm playing well."

In-form Baxter averaged 102 in the final, but was unable to take the killer blow against Lloyd after edging out Adrian Lewis in a gruelling semi-final, which went down to the final leg.

Lewis himself ended the hopes of mentor Phil Taylor at the quarter-final stage, while Roland Scholten and Mark Dudbridge lifted their confidence ahead of the World Grand Prix by reaching the last eight.

Bolton's Steve Coote also made the quarter-finals, losing to Lloyd after an impressive win over Chris Mason earlier in the day at the Thornton Sports & Social Club.
