Taylor Planning Ahead

PHIL TAYLOR is intending to overcome the new crop of darts superstars to reclaim the World Championship title at the end of this year.

The world number one broke a run of six months without a major title last month with victory in the Players Championship Finals.

He has also recovered from a heavy 8-2 loss to Adrian Lewis on the opening week of the 888.com Premier League Darts to defeat Mark Webster and Terry Jenkins in style.

As he prepares for Thursday's clash with Raymond van Barneveld in Exeter, Taylor has revealed he is already preparing himself for the latter part of 2011, in which he will challenge to win back the World Grand Prix, Grand Slam of Darts and World Championship titles.

"I'm going to concentrate over the next few months on getting myself ready for the World Championship," said Taylor. "I'm going to build up during the year.

"It's hard to win every tournament and it puts a lot of pressure on you, but this year there's no pressure on me and it's on the players who've won them.

"I will be after them and am concentrating on winning every major tournament."

Whilst Taylor has opted not to compete on the PDC ProTour over the past two weekends, he has watched with interest as Steve Brown and 20-year-old Michael Smith have won their maiden major titles and the PDC Unicorn Youth Tour has begun with wins for Adam Hunt and Shaun Griffiths.

"It's the biggest influx of young kids I've ever seen in my life," said Taylor.

"It's going to be like snooker or golf, you'll have the best young players coming through that we've seen in the game who want to be successful.

"There's James Wade and Adrian Lewis who have both won major titles in the last six months and below that there's the new Youth Tour, and you also have nine and ten-year-olds hitting nine-darters.

"I've been on the pedestal for a few years and won millions of pounds, and they want what I've got. They're going to try to take it off me but I'm hanging on and trying my best to stay on the top rung."
