Speedy Cardiff Qualifiers Known

SPEEDY have discovered five qualifiers for the Speedy Services UK Open from Thursday's Cardiff Qualifier.

The players are the latest in a series of amateur darts players to have won places in June's Speedy Services UK Open in Bolton through the Speedy Qualifiers, which have given players across England, Scotland and Wales the chance to compete in the event.

Players initially threw 15 darts in a bid to score one of the leading ten totals, before those ten players played off in knockout legs of 701 for the right to qualify for Bolton.

Lee Russell was the top scorer in the first phase in Cardiff as he scored 504, and he went on to win his UK Open place alongside Steve Werrett, Paul Boulton, Jon Farmer and Glen Miller.

Bristol-based Werrett was an amateur qualifier for the 2011 UK Open, when he defeated John Kennedy in the first round before losing to Steve Beaton.

Former World Champion Mark Webster has attended all six of the Speedy Qualifiers held so far as a Speedy Ambassador, and said: "The atmosphere here in Cardiff was out of this world.

"The quality of darts on show was very high. It was a special way to mark the last of the Speedy qualifiers.

"If these players reproduce the standards they showed in Cardiff I'm sure they do themselves and Speedy Services proud come June 7 in Bolton."

Speedy have discovered 24 UK Open Qualifiers from their six regional qualifiers held in Speedy Stores around the UK, and will stage an employees-only event in Haydock on May 4 to find their final eight qualifiers.
