Record Interest In Grand Slam Tickets

THE 2013 William Hill Grand Slam of Darts looks set to welcome record crowds to the Wolverhampton Civic Hall following unprecedented demand for tickets for November's nine-day event.

The 32-player Grand Slam of Darts brings together champions and major finalists from both the PDC and BDO/WDF circuits, who compete in nine days of action at the Wolves Civic from November 9-17.

Play initially sees players drawn into eight four-man groups for the round-robin stage before the top two from each progress to the knockout phase from the last 16 onwards.

This year's Grand Slam of Darts field will be spearheaded by reigning champion Raymond van Barneveld, PDC World Champion Phil Taylor and Lakeside Champion Scott Waites, who are both former Wolverhampton winners.

Their rivals will include World Grand Prix and Premier League Darts champion Michael van Gerwen, European Champion Adrian Lewis, World Youth Champion Michael Smith and former major title winners Robert Thornton, Simon Whitlock, Kevin Painter and Christian Kist.

Tickets for the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts went on general sale on Monday following a week of priority sales for LIVEPDC.TV subscribers, with darts-hungry fans showing unprecedented demand for tickets.

"Last year's William Hill Grand Slam of Darts was the best-ever and it's clear that everyone is expecting this year's to be even greater," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"With the excitement since of Phil Taylor's wins in the World Championship, UK Open and World Matchplay, Adrian Lewis' victory in the European Championship and Michael van Gerwen's Premier League triumph, the anticipation is already building in Wolverhampton.

"It's been an amazing first eight months since we were last at the Wolves Civic, but the reaction of fans to the launch of ticket sales shows how highly the Grand Slam of Darts is regarded now - the local telephone exchange could barely handle the amazing demand!"

Tickets for the William Hill Grand Slam are available now in person from the Wolves Civic Box Office, by calling 0870 320 7000 or through www.wolvescivic.co.uk.

Players will still be able to qualify for the William Hill Grand Slam of Darts through the World Grand Prix and Championship League Darts events and the new PDC event, The Masters, while any remaining spots will be up for grabs in a Wildcard Qualifier which will be held on Monday November 4 in Wigan.
