Sid Waddell: One Year On

SUNDAY marks one year since the legendary Sid Waddell passed away following his battle with cancer.

The 'Voice of Darts' enjoyed a memorable career which spanned three decades covering darts, from producing the Indoor League series to taking up the microphone with the BBC's early coverage of the sport.

Following the formation of the PDC, Sid joined Sky Sports and, alongside Dave Lanning and John Gwynne, became an integral part of their coverage for nearly 20 years.

His unique commentary style was celebrated around the world, while he also enjoyed success as an author with 11 published books, from his early 'Jossies Giants' to his memoirs 'The Road Back Home'.

Following Sid's brave battle against cancer, which he lost last August a day after his 72nd birthday, the PDC introduced The Sid Waddell Trophy, a brand new specially-commissioned trophy for the Ladbrokes World Championship.

Fittingly, the trophy was presented by Sid's son Dan at Alexandra Palace to Phil Taylor, the 16-time World Champion whose incredible career had run largely in tandem with Sid's life behind the microphone.

Sid was also inducted into the PDC Hall of Fame in 2008, and continues to be held in strong affection by all associated with the sport - God Bless Kidda!
