Bullish Belgium: We Can Beat Anyone

Kim Huybrechts & Dimitri Van den Bergh (Stefan Strassenberg)

BELGIAN pair Kim Huybrechts & Dimitri Van den Bergh are aiming for BetVictor World Cup glory following their impressive start in Hamburg.

The duo impressed in the first round by defeating Hong Kong 5-1 on Thursday night, with World Youth Champion Van den Bergh taking out a 136 finish to seal a strong display.

The Belgians - who were the 2013 World Cup finalists - now take on Germany in Saturday's second round in a mouth-watering tie against the host nation.

However, Huybrechts and Van den Bergh believe that their opening win has laid the platform for them to challenge to break the dominance of the Netherlands and England in claiming the World Cup title.

Speaking to BetVictor about the second round tie, Huybrechts said: "Of course it's going to excite us, Max is in really good form and Martin is a really good player.

"But I've always said to Dimitri that when we come to this tournament and we play like we can, as a team, we can beat anyone. That's a strength and that's what we have to think about.

"We don't have to think about how good they are, if we play our own game I think we are red hot favourites.

"We're very happy because the first round is never easy. Hong Kong is probably not one of the teams you want to draw, so I think we did well."

Van den Bergh was a semi-finalist alongside Huybrechts 12 months ago, but is determined to go all the way to glory this time around.

"It means the world, nothing more needs to be said," said the 24-year-old. "Our goal is always to do better than we did last year but now we need to focus on the second round.

"Even though we want to get there you have to take steps, so our focus is on the next round."

The BetVictor World Cup of Darts will be held from June 6-9 at the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

Broadcast live on Sky Sports, the tournament will see 32 countries represented by two players each in the unique event which features both doubles and singles matches.

Tickets are available now through PDC Europe.
