Unfinished business: Premier League main goal for Wright in 2022

Peter Wright

Peter Wright has made his priority for 2022 clear; to win the Premier League for the first time.

Having further cemented his legacy among the sport’s all-time greats by becoming a two-time World Champion, Wright turned his attention straight to the Premier League.

The sport’s most colourful character will star in his ninth consecutive campaign this year and is still looking to add the Premier League trophy to his ever-expanding cabinet.

“At the stage I’m at in my career it’s about ticking off tournaments I haven’t won,” said Wright.

“The Premier League will be my main focus this year.

“It’s the best of the best playing each other every week, travelling around Europe; I just love it and it’s about time I won it.

“But I’m not really thinking about my legacy, I just love playing darts and trying to beat the big boys is the enjoyment I get out of playing the game.”

Wright famously missed darts for the title in 2017 against Michael van Gerwen, and the Scot has a burning desire to right the wrongs of that fateful night at The O2.

“That was one of many titles that I’ve given away but since then I’ve learnt how to win

“Even though I didn’t win it, that tournament showed that if I keep my focus, I have what it takes to achieve my dream in the biggest events.”
