JAMES WADE has joined Raymond van Barneveld in Holland to prepare for his defence of the Stan James World Matchplay title.
The world number three was invited to practice with the Dutchman in Den Haag for two days earlier this week ahead of the World Matchplay, which begins on Sunday.
The duo shared two practice sessions a day, playing up to 24 sets per day in preparation for the Blackpool event.
"It was different to what I'm used to in practice and a lot more intense," said Wade.
"I don't usually practice for so long but I'm feeling good and it should benefit me in the World Matchplay.
"I feel like my form's there and I'm looking forward to defending my title."
Van Barneveld has also linked up with Dutch ace Michael van Gerwen this week as part of a new practice regime devised by manager Ed van der Veer, following his failure to defend his UK Open and Las Vegas Desert Classic titles.
"After the UK Open we analysed several things and concluded that my 'darts fitness' is not what it was in 2007," said van Barneveld.
"Ed created a very tough practice schedule, as well as physical work in the gym, to help me get back to good form again.
"So this week I practised with James in the afternoon and the evening on Monday and Tuesday and Michael on Wednesday.
"James is a guy who keeps you under pressure all the time with big finishes - there's no single moment that you can relax.
"He is a fantastic player and very focussed if he is practising."
